5 Places For The Best Romantic Weekend Getaways

3-4 day trips are my favorite type of travel, and you don’t ever need an excuse to take some romantic weekend getaways. When was the last time you had a romantic trip (whether it was overnight, a weekend or a longer vacation)?

Last year my husband and I went to Rome for a kid-free, long weekend getaway. Some people thought we were crazy for flying all the way to Italy for only 4 days, but it was one of the best vacations. Now that our kids are getting older we usually travel as a family, solo or a one-on-one trip. Just like when my son and I went to Amsterdam, because it’s easier than trying to coordinate people to help with the kids. I know, excuses, excuses.

I definitely don’t want to wait so long again before getting another romantic weekend getaway, and I want to encourage you to stop putting it off too.

Where is the best place to go for a romantic weekend?

Instead of a vacation at home, you should visit a city filled with romance for your next trip.

Grab your carry on and your best travel essentials, because I’ve got you covered with these five amazing cities.

5 Romantic Weekend Getaways:

Paris

Paris is already known for being the city of love, so of course, I had to put it at the top of this list of romantic long weekend getaways.

I visited Paris last spring with a good friend, thanks to finding some budget friendly deals, and we noticed sweet public displays of affection everywhere you turned.

While there are many wonderful romantic options throughout Paris, you can create your own adventure beyond the common tourist attractions.

Stay at Hotel Balzac, which is a beautiful hotel located right off of the Champs-Elysees. Some rooms even have incredible, skyline views of the Eiffel Tower. I am not sure how much more romantic you can get over staring at the Eiffel Tower with your love.

Take a sunset champagne cruise along the Seine, and share a kiss as you cross under Pont-Marie (one of Paris’ many lover’s bridges).

Visit Canal Saint-Martin so you can walk around this cozy and quiet neighborhood, then enjoy a romantic picnic together.

New Orleans

Did you know CNN named New Orleans one of the world’s most romantic cities?

NOLA might be a city that is better known for its party atmosphere, but it can also be a beautiful place for a romantic southern long weekend getaway.

Take a gondola ride on the bayou under ancient, moss-draped live oaks. Pose for a sweet picture near the Love sculpture in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden in the park, next to the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Stay at a place like the historic and romantic Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter for a luxurious experience. Their famous Carousel Bar & Lounge is the city’s only revolving bar and it overlooks Royal Street.

Start with a delicious breakfast at Brennan’s then enjoy a spicy creole dish at Galatoire’s for dinner. Finish up your evening by dancing to sultry live jazz at one of the iconic clubs on Frenchman Street.

Chicago

From the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan to the huge selection of gourmet restaurants, Chicago is another wonderful option when it comes to romantic long weekend getaways.

Before my husband and I were married we took a road trip from Philadelphia to Chicago for a long weekend. We had such a great time exploring the city together and eating all the delicious foods.

The Four Seasons is a 5-star award winning place to stay along the Magnificent Mile. This hotel offers amazing couples packages and treatments in its spa, gourmet dining and more.

The St. Clair Hotel is another option along the Magnificent Mile. You can read all about my friend Natasha and her husband’s romantic getaway to learn more about this incredible hotel.

Venture out into the city and enjoy a carriage ride along Michigan Avenue or visit Millennium Park for an afternoon of ice skating, especially in the wintertime.

Venice

Another international city famous for romance, Venice, is a perfect choice for your romantic long weekend getaway.

Enjoy a stay filled with luxurious amenities and steeped in history at the Baglioni Hotel Luna.

Spend your days taking in the culture of the city or soak up some sun at Alberoni Beach. This beach is situated in a nature reserve. Even better is that it’s away from the busy city life.

Of course, no romantic trip to Venice would be complete without a gondola ride (or many of them) along the city’s iconic canals.

If you can’t make it all the way to Venice, there is a wonderful resort in Arizona, the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale, that actually offers gondola rides, complete with a view of Camelback Mountain.

Miami Beach

For a warm weather romantic escape that includes some excitement, travel to Miami Beach to enjoy serene ocean waves and also amazing nightlife. Book a room at the landmark Essex House Hotel, which is steps away from the ocean, as well as amazing shops and restaurants.

Visit the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens which is an incredible bay front Mediterranean-style mansion. Stroll the expansive gardens or tour the inside to look at the antique, ornate furnishings. There is even a stunning wide terrace that descends straight towards the water.

Whether you choose to spend your days relaxing at the beach or enjoy the cultural offerings of the city at places like the Perez Art Museum, you’re sure to have a romantic and fun adventure in Miami Beach.
