I recently had the opportunity to attend the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, courtesy of Kia. Between the Stinger being nominated as a top three contender for a COTY (Car of the Year Award), the reveal of the 2019 Kia Forte’s exciting makeover and running into some soulful hamsters, it was a great time to celebrate how far Kia has come and where they are headed. Even though that particular event wasn’t yet open to the public, I couldn’t stop thinking how much fun my family would have experiencing a car show together.
Less than a month later my wish came true when my family and I got the opportunity to spend the day at the Philly Auto Show. We named our family fun day, “Hamsters, Family and A Lot of Soul at the Philly Auto Show“.
The excitement started building during our 45 minute drive to Philadelphia as we joked about which Kia vehicle we each wanted to take home after our Ride & Drive experience at the Philly Auto Show.
In case you are wondering what a Ride & Drive experience is, it’s a unique way to familiarize yourself with the fantastic lineup of Kia vehicles.
You get the opportunity to take a car of your choice out for a quick spin in the city along with a Kia vehicle specialist, plus you can earn a $10 Amazon gift card.
The Kia Soul won out as our Ride & Drive car of choice.
Before we went off on our Ride & Drive adventure we walked around the auto show and checked out all of the new cars.
Kia had their full lineup of vehicles on display including the Niro, Cadenza, Sportage, Forte, Rio, Sorento (our family’s newest member), Optima, Sedona, Soul and the newest addition to the Kia Family, the Stinger.
When we entered the room I noticed off to my right a big crowd had started to form. As my kids pushed their way to the front to see what all the excitement was about, I immediately knew. Everyone was unabashedly staring at a sleek and sexy HiChroma Red Kia Stinger as it slowly rotated on a pedestal-like stage.
There were audible sounds of appreciation from people in the crowd as the gentleman holding the microphone next to the Stinger provided some of its impressive stats:
- The 2018 Kia Stinger GT can go 0-60 mph in as low as 4.7 seconds
- has up to 365 horsepower
- 376 lb.-ft. of torque
- it is the new grand touring that takes you farther, faster
After they played the newest commercial showing off the Kia Stinger, which was shown during the 3rd quarter of the Super Bowl (if you missed it you can watch it at the end of this post), we ran into my daughter’s favorite, the Kia Hamsters.
After I pried my teenage son out of the driver’s seat of a glossy Aurora Black Stinger, our family found ourselves hanging out with some cool (and very stylishly dressed) hamsters named Fergie and Fernando.
Next my daughter hopped in a Kia Soul and counted all of the speakers inside. There are 7 and they offer incredible audio quality thanks to Harman Kardon.
The front two speakers on the doors even light up, which made my kids love the Kia Soul even more.
One of the things I loved most about the Philly Auto Show is that not only do you have the opportunity to get to know the cars literally inside and out, but there are also Kia specialists available on the auto show floor to answer all of your questions, provide information and help get you signed up for a Ride & Drive experience.
I couldn’t be happier I had a chance to experience hamsters, family and a lot of soul at the Philly Auto Show.
The next time an Auto Show comes to your town, I recommend you check it out for some unique family fun.
Leave a comment and let me know which Kia vehicle you would choose to ride & drive.
