Surprising Disney World Activities

There are things most people know you can do at Disney World, but what about the things you might not know about? Now I’m not talking about the awesome tours, animal safaris, underground tunnels or Minnie vans. Instead, I am referring to some truly surprising things that you may not have heard about at the Disney Parks and Resorts. Like these surprising Disney World activities that don’t seem to get enough attention or coverage.

For example, even though our family has visited Disney World many times, we didn’t realize you could ride the horses at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, until only a few years ago when we took our daughter to celebrate her 5th birthday

What Is There To Do At Walt Disney World?

That sounds like a silly question right?

Well, you would be surprised how often I hear this question of what is there to do at Disney being asked. Of course you are probably thinking the answer should be all the rides and various attractions throughout the Disney Parks, which I have a whole printable list of them for you categorized by park.

But people also want to know, especially those who have visited Disney World before, what are the hidden gems, the events and activities, like the scavenger hunts, they might not know about but need to.

5 Surprising Disney World Activities

1. Get A Haircut

Did you know you can get a haircut inside of Magic Kingdom? Yes, you can go to a real barber right on Main Street USA. This is one of my favorite things about Disney World. I love that there are places like this where you can take part in an authentic experience.

Harmony Barber Shop is located right in Town Square on Main Street U.S.A. This barber shop is especially fun for kids who are getting their very first haircut. They will get a keepsake certificate along with a set of Mickey Ears to commemorate the occasion.

2. Surfing Lessons

Here’s a really cool and exciting thing you probably didn’t know about.  Among the surprising Disney World activities all across the resorts and Parks, you can actually take surfing lessons at Typhoon Lagoon, which is a pretty unique experience.

Typhoon Lagoon is one of Disney’s water parks and they offer an early morning surfing course that includes a continental breakfast to enjoy. This is made possible with a wave machine and you are given the right surfboards, plenty of assistance and instruction as you learn to surf for the very first time.

3. Archery

Another one of the most surprising Disney World activities are the archery lessons you can take at Fort Wilderness.

This 90 minute program is open to kids 7 years and up. This sounds like a perfect activity for both of my kids to try together, since they are now 8 and 14 years old

It’s a guided experience that offers a short tutorial as well as personal advice. Then you get a chance to hone your skills as you aim for the bullseye. These are real archery lessons, with real arrows, direction and of course a little Disney magic.

4. Epcot Seas Adventure -Aqua Tour

Did you know that The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion isn’t just for a ride. There are a variety of surprising Disney World activities within the Seas pavilion at Epcot, on top of all the other changes that are happening there. The Aqua Tour is just one of them, and it doesn’t require you to be SCUBA-certified to participate

This 2 1/2 hour experience includes about 30 minutes of snorkeling. Learn all about the beautiful creatures that inhabit the Caribbean Coral Reef, explore an underwater wonderland while getting a view of  65 species of marine life and more thanks to this incredible tour.

You have to be 8 years or older to experience this, which might be perfect for my daughter’s birthday.

They also offer a Dolphins in Depth Tour and also a DiveQuest program for those that are SCUBA-certified

5. Uber

Now lately the Minnie Vans have been talked about a lot because they are an official Disney collaboration with Lyft. However, Uber is just as present in the Orlando area and convenient to use.

They frequently have promotional offers that can save you on travel, particularly as compared to the Minnie Van option.

Uber is a great transportation option to get directly to your destination and bypass crowds when at Disney. You can Uber to the Contemporary and walk to the Magic Kingdom, or go to the Yacht and Beach Club and then easily walk through the side entrance of Epcot (even though there is a new entrance coming soon).

What’s The Best Thing to do at Walt Disney World?

The next time someone asks you that question, you can tell them about your favorite things throughout the Parks, but now you can also share 5 surprising Disney World activities they may never have heard about.

Have you ever participated in any of these Disney themed family friendly activities? If not, which one are you looking forward to trying first?

Currently my family has our heart set on some new Disney adventures for next year, but my kids definitely want to try the Aqua Tour.
